10 Ways To Update Your Decor (On A Budget)

IMG_1197.JPG

We all want to come home (or stay home) in a beautifully decorated space. The desire to update the decor and rearrange furniture in our homes to boost our mood is a real thing and, with the year we've had, who can blame us! Our homes became a multi-functional place where we lived and worked from, which is no surprise this year we expect a cozy and creative vibe for our homes. Thankfully, there are ways we can update our decor without breaking the bank. As decor trends (and even our taste) evolve we shouldn't resist that change because, after all, we deserve the good energy that comes from a well-designed space!

1. Accent A Wall With Peel & Stick Wallpaper

I love adding visual interest to a room with (non-committal) peel & stick wallpaper. This renter-friendly hack can easily update an accent wall, cabinets, and backsplash. Plus it can be removed in case I want to try something new in the future!

2. Give Old Vases A New Look

The faux ceramic technique, using paint and baking soda, is an awesome way to turn outdated decor into a luxurious vase or piece of art. I like to accent with wispy branches to add a natural element to the look.

3. Create A Beautiful Gallery Wall

I achieved this vintage-style gallery wall in my breakfast nook by thrifting each frame and BEGGING my mom to paint custom art for each! Not only does it reduced my carbon footprint by sourcing second-hand pieces but also makes a special custom moment in the space.

4. Put Cooking Ingredients On Display

I find such beauty in seeing natural, raw ingredients on display in a kitchen. Their organic essence gives off this warm and homey vibe that I absolutely love.

You can thrift a collection of glass canisters or shop my favorites here.

5. Elevate Any Room with Lighting

The right lighting can turn an ordinary room into an elevated one. I added remote-controlled LED lights to the bottom of the cabinets in a recent kitchen makeover. Not only did they provide more light but also made the space look luxurious.

6. Update A Small Space With A DIY Shiplap Wall

If peel and stick wallpaper is not your thing, there’s another (even lower-budget way) way to add character to a small room. With a little bit of acrylic paint and frog tape, I created a faux shiplap look that dramatically updated this bathroom without the expensive cost of the “real thing”.

7. Use Books To Perk Up A Coffee Table

I love decorating with books. They’re not just for reading but also great decor pieces for a coffee table, end table, and shelves. They can be layered to add height and provide an extra surface to decorate on. I love thrifting books in gorgeous neutral to rich tones but also in subjects I enjoy… art, poetry and architecture!

8. Decorate With Plants & Flowers

I love to bring the outdoors in by adding plants and flowers through my home. They add texture and a sense of calmness to any space. I love to mix a statement flower with wild flowers and foliage for a perfectly, imperfect look.

Adding a bookcase to this wall in my entryway creative more space and such a special moment for things I love. It also set the tone and vibe for my home when someone walked in. I also had more surface area to decorate and to display the unique thrifted pieces I’ve collected.
