6 Simple Ways I Prioritize Self-Care

We’re three months into our cottage renovation and it has really taken a toll mentally and physically. From demolishing rooms and cleaning up the property to coordinating contractors and making important design decisions its reminded me of the importance of self-care. I’ve found when i’m neglecting my self-care not only do I get easily overwhelmed and frustrated, but my creativity also suffers. Here are some self-care tips I’ve incorporated into my own life that have helped keep my positivity high, creativity flowing and overwhelm low!

ONE.

Getting proper sleep.

It’s so important that my bedding and mattress are comfortable. Not only does a comfortable bed set and cozy duvet cover ensure a good night’s rest, but also calms my mood seeing a well-put-together bed set.

My favorite bedding is from Target’s Casa Luna Collection. They offer a great assortment of colors and textures.

TWO.

Unwinding With Candles.

I have a candle for every room in my house because not only do they make beautiful decor and smell great but are also known to reduce stress and improve our moods. Candles in soothing scents are a fantastic way of transporting me into a peaceful and relaxing place. I especially love the soy candles from Olive + Company.

THREE.

Taking a bath.

My work requires me to be constantly connected to a phone or computer so it’s essential for me to turn off my notifications and disconnect from social media at some point during the day. I love putting my signature on a productive day's work by unwinding with a bath and adding one of my favorite Ouai Bath Bombs.

FOUR.

Adding Florals & Plants.

A floral arrangement in the kitchen or living room can bring a joyful ambiance to the room. The lively colors in flowers and the earthy tones in foliage are a staple in many of my renovations. Plants and flowers are certainly an outlet for creativity and peace of mind.

FIVE.

Journaling and Meditating.

With so much happening at the cottage, it almost started to feel like the days were all blending together. I decided to start journaling for at least 5 minutes a day as a way to gain clarity and an opportunity to speak on my gratitude. Shop my favorite notebook here.

SIX.

Establishing a skincare routine.

At 32 years old, I have come a long way with my skin, and I know the importance of a daily skincare regimen. Not only does it exercise discipline— because we all know that having a skincare routine is more than just soap and lotion—It also sets the foundation for flawless aging. One of my favorite ways to keep my skin looking hydrated is with sheet masks from Sephora!
