How Thrifting Is Influencing Fall 2021 Decor

The unofficial last day of summer has come and gone and fall is upon us, but with the warmer weather in Texas and Los Angeles, it’s getting a little hard for me to get fully into the season….YET! There are only a few times per year where I’ll change up the decor in our home - Fall, Christmas & “Everyday” decor.

For the Fall season, I’m less literal with Fall decor. Instead of themed pillows and loads of pumpkins, I like to incorporate elements that bring warmth and a sense of coziness to my home. Thrift shopping for vintage and unique decor has always been something I’ve loved to do, and it makes me so happy to see more and more people thrifting and reusing decor that’s been pre-loved. Here are ways to incorporate thrifted and vintage pieces into your Fall decor for an inviting and lived-in feeling fit for the season.

Vintage Dishes & Glassware

The Fall and Holiday seasons are a time of gathering with family and friends and spending time together. Although our gatherings may be smaller this year, we can still create some epic tablescapes! I’m planning for place settings of vintage glassware and scalloped dishware with an eclectic mix of coffee mugs for everyone as they snuggle around the fire.

I’ve collected quite the assortment of dishware and glassware from my thrift shopping and flea market trips that I can’t wait to use in the cottage. The advantages of thrifting these items are you’ll find them more unique (than something you can buy new), cheaper than buying new AND thrift stores always have LOADS of glassware so you’ll have a lot to pick from.

Crochet Blankets

I think it’s time to bring out grandmas crochet blankets! I recently found some blankets my grandmother handmade, decades ago, and could see them handing off the back of the couch in the cooler months. Occasionally, I will see crochet blankets at the thrift shops for just a few dollars. Now not all of them are in color palettes I would put on display in our living room so maybe it’s time to DIY one for ourselves…in pretty jewel-toned colors of course. Etsy has loads of patterns that you can get for a few dollars and then DIY one!

Candle Light & Vintage Lanterns

Thrift stores are a perfect place to find candlesticks which I love to decorate within just about every surface in our home. I actually love decorating with brass candlesticks year-round and just swapping out the taper candle color to fit the season. As the days get shorter, creating candle-lit moments is a must for the fall season. I’ve also recently been finding brass lanterns (both oil & electric) at flea markets that I LOVE! Even in the electric lanterns, you can add a warmer Edison LED lightbulb to mimic the same hue of light as a candle flame.

Floral and Landscape Framed Art

It’s no secret I love a good floral or landscape piece of art in our home year-round. Also, all the art in our home is framed in vintage gold frames I’ve collected from our thrifting adventures. Art can be a great way to warm up a space for the season, especially when it doesn’t break the bank. My mom is the amazing artist behind all of the art in our home, and she offers each of them as digital downloads for only $15. You can easily print them at home and pop them into a frame you already have, or one you thrift, to add to a bookshelf or hang on the wall. Check out her Etsy Shop here!

Dried Flowers in Thrifted Vessels

I’ve always preferred dried flowers over faux ones for our home and there are some beautiful dried bouquets you can buy for Fall to use year after year. Thrift shops have loads of vases, vessels and baskets that are perfect to up-cycle and hold dried flower arrangements. Most of the vessels I find are the right shape, but wrong color or lack an organic feel. To up-cycle them, you can use the paint-baking soda mixture to add the right color and texture to match your home. Check out the DIY Video here.

Let me know in the comments if you guys are ready for Fall and decor you’re loving for the season!
