Guide To Furniture Shopping: Austin, Texas

It’s never too early in a renovation to go furniture shopping! Especially when it comes to sofas as it can take months to get one custom-made in the perfect fabric. So! We made our way down to Austin, Texas to check out all the best furniture stores the city had to offer. Since my style is a mix of vintage and contemporary we visited stores that offer everything from new and contemporary to vintage and second-hand! Here’s my guide to some of my favorite places to shop for furniture in Austin, Texas!

Favorite Stores For “Vintage”

The Renner Project

3018 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78705

This was my favorite store we visited for vintage pieces. It has 20th-century modern vintage and antique pieces curated in a series of room scapes.

Their pieces were definitely more unique as they specialize in furniture from the 1930’s to 70’s. There is also a warehouse in the basement with even more decor and furniture.

Visiting this store reaffirmed that I want our cottage to be incredibly unique and special. Also, the owner is on her way back from Europe with some amazing furniture pieces so I’ll definitely be visiting again soon!

I had no idea what to expect from reading the store’s description - “one-of-a-kind emporium for transcendent junk, the odd, the gorgeous, the compelling and the uncanny!” I mean…. Who wouldn’t want to go visit a store with this description, right? It definitely didn’t disappoint and although the prices are a little higher than what I would expect from a thrift store, they still were reasonably priced for more unique decor. They offered an abundance of unique smaller decor items rather than furniture.

Favorite Stores For “New”

Arhaus

3309 Esperanza Crossing, Austin, TX 78758

I’ve always loved their mix of organic contemporary with classic shapes and styles, so I was so excited to see their selection. They have a huge assortment of fabrics and leathers to choose from so we’ll be able to select furniture shapes that fit our cottage design and custom-order it in any fabric they offer! Their sofas were actually so comfortable and also structured which I love.

Back Home Furniture

4477 S Lamar Blvd #730, Austin, TX 78745

French inspired living and a great source for European style furniture. There were so many things I could see us incorporating and mixing with other vintage items. It’s such a beautiful store and highly recommend you check them out. Their lamp section is gorgeous!

Favorite For Contemporary & On A Budget

Four Hands Home

Regular Store: 2090 Woodward St, Austin, TX 78744

Outlet Store: 2020 W Anderson Ln, Austin, TX 78757

This store offers a wide selection of pieces and styles from all over the world from rustic, reclaimed, traditional, midcentury, contemporary and more.  This location had beautiful furniture but very contemporary. I would definitely revisit this place if I wanted to mix in contemporary pieces touches to my vintage decor.

They also have an outlet store that had some amazing deals! So many items were marked down which ended in huge discounts for some (originally) pricy pieces.

Hope this guide to furniture shopping in Austin, Texas is helpful! Comment other stores you love in the area so we can check them out as well!
